This month as part of our section on mind- fulness, we also take a look at Kindfulness Kindfulness is about being consciously kind, not only to others but to ourselves too. ‘Kindfulness is about being a friend to the person you are now, not putting it off until you become a perfect person, which for most of us never arrives,’ according to Psycho- therapist Padraig O’Morain, author of Kindfulness Being kind to your- self is really im- portant, but not al- ways easy, but sometimes it helps to imagine what you would say to your best friend or family member in a difficult situation and apply it to yourself. So next time you find your- self getting cross and disappointed with yourself for behaving in a certain way, give yourself a break, and replay in your mind what kinder words you’d say to your good friend. If it’s to apologise, then apol- ogise. If it’s ‘don’t worry, tomorrow’s another day and you can try again tomor- row,’ then take heed of these wise words. Practice self- compassion and be- ing kind to yourself. Taking yourself somewhere peaceful can have a restora- tive effect and help you find inner calm and peace. Your peaceful place could be in nature amongst the woods or by the sea or a quiet space where you live in your home. A few mo- ments to breathe deeply and be still can do you the world of good. If you find it hard to still your mind or rid yourself of thoughts, mindful colouring could be for you! Colouring and being creative in the pro- cess can be a bril- liant way to unwind and find your inner calm.
