This month in Bella Dea, takes a look at superfoods such as nuts, garlic, tur- meric and green tea and share with you why they have earned the term ‘superfoods’ In general, nuts are good sources of fat, fiber and protein. The fats in nuts are mostly monounsaturated, omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated. All this means that it’s the healthy type of fat that is good for you! Nuts also contain vitamins and minerals including magnesium and vitamin E. Nuts can help reduce blood pressure and cho- lesterol levels due to the healthy fats within them that benefit the heart. They have also been linked to reducing your risk of developing chronic diseases. There are two main things to be cautious of when consuming nuts. Firstly, you don’t need to eat too many nuts as just a small handful contains a healthy amount to consume each day. Secondly, make sure you choose nuts that don’t have added sugar or salt. The best way to eat nuts for maximum nutritional value is to eat them in their natural state. Nuts, Garlic, Turmeric & Green Tea
