The Importance of Having a Work / Life Balance This month as many more people are returning to work after a significant amount of time due to the covid-19 pandemic, Bella Dea takes a look at why maintaining a good work / life balance is so important . To demonstrate how important maintaining a healthy work life balance is to our mental and physical health, it’s probably easier to look at the negative impact of not having a decent work / life balance. A poor work/life balance can lead to stress related illness, depression, burnout, chronic stress. We’ve all heard it said ‘Healthy body, healthy mind’ so in order to help maintain your mental health, it’s important to focus on your physical health. This is where regular exercise and healthy eating play their vital part. It goes without saying that it’s vitally important not to let work dominate every aspect of your life to the detriment of your physical health. So ensuring you get enough sleep (again being physically active can enhance the quality of your sleep) as well as eating healthy foods at regular times and doing regular exercise. And a word of caution about alcohol… you may feel it helps you to relax and unwind after a stressful day, but it will interfere with the quality of sleep you have through the night and drinking over the recommended daily amount is dangerous, as is drinking too much several times a week even if it’s not every day.
